Marvel's Romance Superhero Series ‘Cloak and Dagger’ is Getting a TV Show

Freeform has decided to get into the Marvel Universe by greenlighting the publishing company's Cloak and Dagger series.

According to Variety, the Disney-owned network gave the superhero love story comics a straight-to-series order.

Cloak and Dagger is based on the story of the comic book duo Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson as they become superheroes and fall in love. Both have appeared in Marvel's classic Spiderman and X-Men comics.

Tandy's powers is the ability to emit light daggers while Tyrone's is the ability to engulf others in darkness. The duo learn that they work better than apart, which will make their relationship more complicated.

Cloak and Dagger is Freeform's first Marvel series. There's no writer attached to the project yet. Both Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios will co-produce the show.

It looks like this report last month of Marvel developing at least 9 more TV series is true. The company is slowly filling in the list. At the time, a Marvel TV head was interviewed about Daredevil and he teased of other nine or ten shows going.

Daredevil counts as one. Then there's Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, and now Cloak and Dagger. I wonder which series is next.

So far, each Marvel series has received positive response, both by critics and fans. Freeform most probably saw the opportunity the franchise has. While other series has targeted adult audiences, Cloak and Dagger's market is the young adult population. I'm not sure how the treatment will go, but most likely, it won't be as dark as Daredevil or Jessica Jones.
