If your first introduction to Marvel's heroes happened through the MCU, you probably weren't aware of the original Defenders. Before Netflix made their first crossover with the characters, The Defenders originally consisted of Hulk, Namor the Submariner, Silver Surfer, and Doctor Strange. They haven't reunited in a while but that all changes in December as Marvel has announced a series of one-shots that will bring back these characters as a unit.
All of these one-shots have been labeled as The Best Defense so it's easy to assume that the collected edition of this story will be called Defenders: The Best Defense. Here is a full list of the one-shots coming in December, courtesy of Newsarama:

Prior to this, the last Defenders comic book actually had the Netflix iteration fans are familiar with. It starred Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and also had a number of other street heroes by the series' climax. The series was also Brian Michael Bendis' last before he jumped ship to DC Comics, though many do say that it was one of his best.
Even before the Netflix iteration, The Defenders weren't exactly a team with consistent members. Pretty much every hero in the Marvel universe has been a Defender, including Iceman, Beast, Valkyrie, Misty Knight, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and so much more. It's also worth noting that the original group - Hulk, Namor, Doctor Strange, and Silver Surfer - don't get along when together and usually only meet when a threat is too big for them to handle alone. I guess we know what brings them together in this series.
