Mark Hamill Talks About Luke And Leia’s Reunion In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Warning: This article contains a few spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

There was a lot of anticipation building over Star Wars: The Last Jedi, not only because it promised to give answers to the burning questions left by The Force Awakens, but also because it promised to bring Leia and Luke together for the last time on the big screen.

Hearts all over the world broke after Carrie Fisher passed away last year, and fans were sure their hearts would break all over again seeing Luke and Leia reunite in The Last Jedi.

Sitting down to answer the questions of Entertainment Weekly in an interview, Mark Hamill decided to open up about that special scene where the Skywalker twins meet again after years of separation.

"I'm saying goodbye to her in the movie, and it's just so tragic now that … I can't really watch it. I'm still … it's me being in denial," the Star Wars legend admits. "She's so present tense, not past tense. And she really deserved to be here because she's so wonderful in the movie."

In the scene, Luke tries to apologize for keeping away for so long, listening to Leia lament over her son. Leia tried her best to hold on and believe that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) would return to the light, but in that moment, she admits that her son's gone. Luke then replies, "No one is ever really gone," handing her Han's (Harrison Ford) golden dice.

Leia then gives her brother a subtle look, and according to Hamill, that's when she realizes the big twist – her twin was simply projecting himself on Crait through the Force.

"That's when she knows," Hamill says.

It's a pretty bittersweet moment, learning that Luke and Leia's reunion is simply a projection. Nevertheless, it's hard to deny the tenderness in the exchange between the Skywalker siblings.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
