Mark Hamill Disappointed That The Last Jedi Scene Where Luke Grieves Hans Death Got Cut

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might not have had that much time to properly grieve over Han's (Harrison Ford) passing while the Resistance was busy running from the First Order, but a deleted scene from The Force Awakens sequel actually shows Luke having a quiet but emotional moment after learning about the death of his brother-in-law and friend.

Titled "Luke Has A Moment" the deleted scene which appears in The Last Jedi's Blu-Ray release shows what the theatrical version failed to present – a concrete moment showing how characters mourn the death of Han.

Though fans get to see Luke and Leia (Carrie Fisher) coming together to share a small moment mourning Han, many feel like the scene wasn't enough to hash out the loss that the twins felt after the passing of the Star Wars smuggler.

Mark Hamill feels the same way too. Speaking in an interview with IGN, the Star Wars legend admits that he regretted that Luke's reaction to Han's death was cut from the film, saying that it was an important part of The Last Jedi.

"Yes, of course because it shows Luke was putting on a facade in front of Rey and even Chewie, that he was embittered and sort of a broken man," Hamill told the publication. "And I think the fact that he could let his emotions out when he was by himself would have made an impact on the audience because it allowed them to grieve the loss of Han Solo just the way Luke felt it."

Hamill also felt that it was unfair that the film had time to show off Luke's antics but didn't have time to show a bit of the grief that Luke felt after hearing of Han's passing.

"But that always happens in films. You say, 'Oh, what about this scene where this happens or that happens?" because you want to give the fullest experience that you can. And like you say, it was brief enough that I was -- [chuckles] They had time for me to milk that big alien but to show any human emotion? Nah, we don't have time for that. But again it's not my call," the actor said.

The Star Wars legend does have a very strong point. A short moment of grief over Han's death would have been able to help fans emotionally connect to Luke more in the film. What's a few minutes longer if fans get to see Luke being human?

Rian Johnson probably had his reasons cutting the scene out of the film, but it's such a shame that "Luke Has A Moment" didn't make it into the movie.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
