Maisie Williams Reveals the Definitive Fate of Arya’s Swordmaster in Game of Thrones

Swordmaster Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) is among the most beloved characters in Game of Thrones. Although he died saving the life of Arya, he's one character that you'd easily get attached to and one you'd wish to have an eventual return.

When Arya's "dancing instructor" put his life on the line to save her, it appeared like he died, but it was never truly shown whether he did. It turns out that Maisie Williams herself thought the swordmaster made it.

In an interview with IGN, the 18-year-old actress said she always assumed Forel survived the sinister Lannister guards. In fact, she thinks he and the Faceless Man are the same person since the two are both from Braavos.

It's an interesting thought. Arya's swordmaster could play a bigger role after all in the hit HBO series. Unfortunately, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed once and for all that "No, he is dead."

So there's that.

Williams said:

So that put that to bed really quickly. But I guess we can all still dream.

It's a good thing then that Arya at least got her revenge when she killed Lannister guard leader Meryn Trant in Braavos. I have a feeling Arya will be able to avenge everyone she cared about who were killed as the series progresses.

Game of Thrones season 6 premieres on HBO on April 24.
