Yesterday, we reported about a Magic: The Gathering content creator who received a free Theros: Beyond Death Collector's Booster box from Wizards of the Coast as an apology gift for the delay of the Secret Lair Drop Series: International Women's Day 2020 order. That's currently priced $185 at Amazon, which is huge who purchased the $25 print-on-demand product.
On Monday night, the official Secret Lair Twitter clarified the error of sending a display box of the Collector's Booster:
"Due to an internal miscommunication, a number of #MTGSecretLair fans who bought the IWD drop recently received a display box of Collector Boosters when our intent was to send an individual Collector booster," the statement explained. "We meant for this to be a "sorry for the wait" gift due to the COVID-19 related shipping delays, and we apologize to those who are now expecting a display box. Future IWD and Theros drop shipments will include an individual Collector booster."
Several MTG products like the last few Secret Lairs have delayed their shipment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Although it's good to see that Wizards is giving apology gifts for customers who preordered this special MTG item, several fans on Twitter responded on the Secret Lair post to criticize the error.
WotC launched this Secret Lair to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, and each copy includes five new versions of cards featuring some of Magic's iconic female characters with new, borderless art illustrated by some of the game's finest artists: Mila Pesic, Livia Prima, Cynthia Sheppard, Anna Steinbauer, and Magali Villeneuve. "In fact, everyone who worked on this product—the artists, creative directors, producers, package designers, and flavor text writers—were all women," Wizards said.
