Magic Online Will Still Be Part of The Magic Esports Program

Wizards of the Coast

Magic: The Gathering is joining the esports scene in 2019 but when Wizards of the Coast made the announcement yesterday, they did not mention anything about Magic Online, leading many to believe that they're cutting support for the client to focus more on Magic Arena but according to a tweet from the Magic Online Twitter page, that's not entirely the case.

"#MTGO is definitely still part of the Magic esports program," the tweet reads. "Players will still be able to qualify for tabletop Mythic Championships through Magic Online tournaments. For more about MTGO's plans, @CKiritz's State of the Program article will be out next week on the MTGO site."

This reassurance should help calm down the financial situation of Magic Online. Magic Arena is probably years away from having eternal formats such as Modern and Legacy so Magic Online will still be around for a while but I wouldn't be surprised if the platform's economy declines significantly next year.
