Mads Mikkelsen Discusses His Experience Filming Rogue One With Gareth Edwards and Felicity Jones

Mads Mikkelsen isn't new to revealing details about his involvement in the highly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In April, he revealed his character as the father of Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso. Last month, he hinted on the appearance of some iconic characters in the movie. The latest reveal from the 50-year-old Danish actor is a clarification on the highly-rumored Rogue One reshoots, where he said that "it's not a new thing."

Now, the Doctor Strange star is sharing details about his experience working with director Gareth Edwards, as well as lead actress Felicity Jones.

During an interview with Yahoo! Movies for the promotion of his film Danish comedy Men and Chicken, of course the topic of Star Wars cannot be avoided.

Fortunately, the actor once again gamely shared some fun details about the upcoming Star Wars Anthology film. He had nothing but praises for Edwards, saying:

[Gareth Edwards'] vision was wonderful. He was a natural, man.

Mikkelsen also noted how the Edwards made the vibe on set feel "real" and comfortable despite the enormity of the production. The actor said:

He tried to create this little space where it's just, it's real – that we're actually making a real scene. And I think that's the only thing we can do with it. We tried to take in the enormity of the Star Wars universe, while we were acting. We have to know it's there of course, but we can't act it – we have to make it real. He made us feel as if we were just doing a small, Danish show.

Mikkelsen also teased a tiny bit of detail about his scene with Jones, specifying how each character serves a purpose. He said:

I would give away spoilers if I told you what kinds of scenes I have with [Felicity Jones]. But err… they are characters. They're not ‘character' characters… but they all serve their purpose and we have to be aware, obviously when you do a film like this, that it's not your show. You're serving a purpose or you're telling a story of someone else, but you're a part of it.

It seems like Mikkelsen's character could be more pivotal to the movie than we could imagine. It would be interesting to see how the father of Jyn Erso would handle a "rebellious" daughter like her.
