Luke Skywalker’s Original Lightsaber And A Film Used R2-D2 Are Up For Auction

Star Wars collectors better get ready because it looks like Luke Skywalker's lightsaber used in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back is going up on auction this month.

Though thought to have disappeared before its reappearance in The Force Awakens back in 2015, the original lightsaber prop used by Mark Hamill during the first two films of the original trilogy is now looking for a new home.

One of the many Star Wars artifacts being put up on auction in The Profile Hollywood Auction 89 running from June 26-28 in Los Angeles, the valuable lightsaber is expected to sell for around $150,000 -$250,000. After all, the last time a lightsaber prop of Hamill's was auctioned off, it was sold for $240,000.

But that's not all! The Profile Hollywood Auction 89 is also selling off a "complete film used ‘R2-D2' unit' to fans. According to the item description of the prop, the R2-D2 piece is assembled from the droid's original components used in the original trilogy and in Star Wars episodes I and II. A fan favorite character with all of its original parts, the site expects the astromech to reach $1 million to $2 million in the final day of the auction.

Though regular fans may be thrown off by the prices of the Star Wars merch on auction at The Profile Hollywood Auction 89, an original item used on a Star Wars set won't ever come cheap. We can just hope for the day we win the lottery and get our hands on an original Luke Skywalker lightsaber.
