Production on Jon Favreau's upcoming Star Wars live-action series The Mandalorian has just begun, and it looks like Lucasfilm has just given Star Wars fans their first look at what seems to be the series' protagonist.
Lucasfilm's official Star Wars account just broke out the news regarding the beginning of production for The Mandalorian today, and in an article on the official Star Wars website, fans get to take a look at the first official image of the upcoming live-action series.
The series which is to be written and produced by Iron Man director Jon Favreau features the story of a "lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." Though the article doesn't confirm who's being featured in the first-look photo for The Mandalorian, we're guessing that the Mandalorian in the photo could only be the protagonist in the series.
Lucasfilm's announcement post also confirms the rumors that Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels' Dave Filoni will be directing an episode for the series. As it turns out, Filoni will be taking on the pilot episode of the upcoming series. What's even more interesting is that joining Filoni as episode directors are Jessica Jones' Deborah Chow, Dopes' Rick Famuyiwa, Solemates' Bryce Dallas Howard, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
Waititi was a popular contender among fans looking for new directors for the Star Wars franchise, however, the filmmaker previously turned down fans hopes by saying he had no intention of directing a Star Wars film because of the pressure the work brings. Now, it looks like the fan-favorite Marvel director's starting out his Star Wars career as an episode director for The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian might not have a release date just yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
