Live-Action Aladdin Casts Tony Nominee Billy Magnussen In Original Role

Guy Ritchie and Disney are moving forward with their live-action Aladdin movie, and a new cast member has been announced for the film. According to THR, Into the Woods actor Billy Magnussen will be joining the film as an original character created for the movie.

Magnussen will reportedly be playing a character named "Prince Anders." No other details have been revealed about Anders, but seeing that he's a prince, he'll probably be playing one of Princess Jasmine's many suitors. I have no idea if Magnussen will be given his own musical number though.

Magnussen joins a cast that includes Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Namoi Scott as Princess Jasome, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. Numan Acar and Nasim Pedrad have also been cast in supporting roles, and the genie will be played by the ever-charismatic Will Smith.

Fans of musicals will remember Magnussen's performance as Rapunzel's prince, and he shared the duet Agony with Chris Pine who was also playing the prince for Cinderella. Magnussen was also nominated for a Tony for his work on the stage play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

No official release date has been set for the live-action Aladdin movie, but I'm guessing that we'll be seeing our first look of the film sometime in 2018.
