Last year saw the massive success of Bohemian Rhapsody, and now director Dexter Fletcher is set to work on a biopic about another famous musician, Elton John. Just in, Paramount has dropped the first full trailer for Rocketman starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman).
It's worth noting that this movie isn't going to be a traditional biopic, but rather a ‘musical fantasy' which will include exaggerations and musical numbers that weren't exactly accurate to the story. Then again, considering just how fantabulous Elton John's image is, it seems right that they would approach the movie in this way.
Besides Egerton, the movie also includes the likes of Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), and Jamie Bell (The Adventures of Tintin).
It's also worth noting that a lot of praise is being sent the way of Egerton when it comes to his portrayal of Elton John. It's even said that he does a lot of his own singing in the movie. Funnily enough, Elton John also had an appearance in Egerton's Kingsman: The Golden Circle film.
Though the movie was a success, Bohemian Rhapsody still went on to get a lot of criticism, mostly because of its historical inaccuracy. While I think no one should expect any biopics to be accurate at all, I think the fantasy approach might be an interesting take on the genre of music biopic. No doubt if this movie is a hit, we could be looking at a Broadway adaptation soon.
Rocketman is set to come out this May 31.
