Kingsman Writer Announces First Netflix Comic The Magic Order

After writing Kick-Ass, Superior, The Ultimates, and Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mark Millar announced his first comic book series under the Netflix banner: The Magic Order. Netflix had acquired the writer's Millarworld imprint, home to various comics, though they won't have the rights to Kingsman and Kick-Ass. Millar will be joined by acclaimed comic book artist Oliver Coipel, known for his work on Thor, House of M, and Amazing Spider-Man among others.

During an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millar revealed that the series would be a combination of magic fantasy and mob stories. The series revolves around a secret order of good wizards who keep the world as normal as it can be, often getting their hands dirty while the world turns a blind eye. Said wizards have ordinary lives, but will secretly deal with threats no one knows about, like a mobster or an assassin.

Millar is hoping the concept is accessible to those that find fantasy a bit off-putting, hence the focus on a mob-like group of wizards. The idea is to make the series feel like The Sopranos rather than Lord of the Rings, giving the amount of magic a down-to-earth tone. Since the series will be published under Millarworld and Netflix, we can expect some sort of live-action adaptation in the near future.

The Magic Order will be a six-issue mini-series and is set to launch next spring.
