Kevin Feige Reacts To The Shocking Opening Deaths In Avengers: Infinity War

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

There's a lot of death and destruction in Avengers: Infinity War, even during the very start of the film. Fans who've already seen the first installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie know that Infinity War opens with Thanos' (Josh Brolin) massacre on the Asgardian ship fans saw fleeing in Thor: Ragnarok.

However, while so many Asgardian bodies were littered on the floor of a dark ship, no one really expected Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) to die so quickly in the film. Loki's always been a fan-favorite character and no expected the Asgardian God of Mischief to die in the first act of Infinity War.

In an interview with The Wrap, Marvel President Kevin Feige talks about the emotional toll of saying goodbye to Loki and Heimdall, two extremely valuable characters in Marvels Thor franchise.

"A lot of days on this movie were emotional, not just if anything that drastic happened, but just characters that have been around for so long, or for whom the actor is their most identifiable role, or it's a role that started them on their current giant career path," Feige explained during the interview. "Not just a big dramatic bow, final curtain call, but anything some of the emotional dialogue scenes in this movie people … it would get emotional. For the most part, the film was fun because all these people are fun and all these actors are fun."

It's hard to imagine Loki coming back from that neck-snapping death in Infinity War, or Heimdall coming back after being stabbed through the heart. Sure Avengers 4 might have the potential of reviving characters that disappeared at the end of Marvel's massive superhero crossover movie, but we don't think that it would include characters that were killed while Thanos was collecting the Infinity Stones.

It's definitely going to be hard for Marvel fans to continue knowing that Loki's gone, but Thor's franchise is over and Loki's death might just be a sign for fans to start moving on.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
