Kelly Marie Tran Explains Why The Star Wars Prequels Deserve More Credit

George Lucas' Star Wars prequel films might have ended up being the most divisive installments in the franchise, but that doesn't mean that the movies don't deserve any less respect from the fanbase.

According to Star Wars: The Last Jedi breakout star Kelly Marie Tran, fans should give more credit to the Star Wars prequel trilogy, saying that the movies just took a few risks.

Speaking in an interview with CinemaBlend during a press junket for The Force Awakens sequel, Tran decided to share her thoughts on the prequel trilogy.

"I think something about the newer trilogy that people don't give it credit for is that it really did take risks in different ways. I know everyone hates Jar Jar, but that's a risk. You know? I think that one good thing about Star Wars from its inception until now is that these films, from the beginning, have taken risks. Even if people don't end up liking those risks... I do think that just continuing that sort of groundbreaking ability to take risks and push limits in film is something that they will continue and have continued with this new film and hopefully you will see that."

Tran is right though. Sure the prequels might not be the most liked films in the franchise, but the trilogy did take risks. Lucas was an innovator that tried his best to improve on the lightsaber and space battles. Though the films didn't seem to age well, it's hard to deny that Lucas took risks.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas in the US this Friday, December 15, 2017.
