Kathleen Kennedy Shuts Down Possibility of Rogue One Sequel

It looks the fate of Jyn Erso and the rest of her Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comrades won't be happy one. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that no matter how well the first stand-alone Star Wars film performs at the box office, there won't be a sequel.

Kennedy announced this in the latest issue of Empire, and chief creative officer and formal visual effects supervisor John Knoll and director Gareth Edwards backed her up

Edwards went on to say that any sequel "will be directed by George Lucas," referencing the fact that the new film is explicitly meant as a prequel to the 1977 original Star Wars that launched the entire franchise.

This news could confirm that Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso and her team won't make it alive at the end of the film.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
