Justice League Dark Director Talks Production Inspiration

Inspiration in moviemaking can come in different forms, sizes, and sources. The crazy deadline can become one of them, especially if you're meeting a specific timeline, but for director Doug Liman, inspiration is about making a connection with the film he is making.

In an interview with Collider, Liman shared the process he'll undertake once he starts production with Justice League Dark. He shared that he already has a vision for the movie--one that will take inspiration from his experience with working on superheroes (or superhumans) like Jason Bourne, and The Wall actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena.

"They're like superheroes. So, I'm really excited, with Justice League Dark, to actually look at what it's like, if I actually tackle a real superhero, but it's not gonna look that different from my other superheroes."

Even with that idea in mind however, Liman wa quick to point out that he does not have an idea yet on when production will start. And that's because of his current project and the direction it will take him to.

"I have to have a passionate connection to my films, which I do with Justice League Dark. I have a way into the story that's personal, the way I have a connection to The Wall… The paint is still wet on The Wall. I'm not sure what I'm going to take away from it, and therefore what I'm gonna want to do next."

This connection is also why Liman left the Gambit project. He admits that he never made a connection with the movie. Liman revealed that for most of his projects, he was able to find something that he connects with, whether it's taking inspiration from a previous project or just wanting to tell the side of the story that no one would've seen.

It looks like we'll have to wait a little while for any news Justice League Dark. But at least we can take comfort in the fact that Liman is already invested in the movie with a great vision to boot.
