Justice League: Aquaman's Weapon In The Trailers Is Actually Mera's

We know that Jason Momoa's Aquaman will end up being King of Atlantis in the DCEU, but that won't be who he is in the upcoming Justice League. Since we're still following Arthur Curry's hero journey in Aquaman, it turns out that his signature trident in the trailer isn't actually his. It's Mera's.

In an interview with Chris Van Vilet, Momoa explains:

"I didn't call it a trident. It's a quindent. We don't call it that in the movie and when you watch Aquaman you're going to see him go for the trident, so everyone's just got to stay tuned for a hot minute."

He's not the king yet. He looks to Mera and he goes ‘I need to borrow something. I need you to do me a favor' so that's when she gives him the equipment."

With the trident probably being reserved for whoever is king, I guess it's fitting that they save the weapon for a future movie. What I'm really excited to see, however, is Aquaman getting his hand cut off and him replacing it with a badass hook.

Though I don't expect it to happen anytime soon, the event is too much of a setpiece for the movies to ignore. Then again, with BvS totally rushing into the death of Superman, I can imagine they'll rush to Aquaman cutting off his arm in the solo movie—which I hope they don't.

I'm just hoping they follow the JLU route and have Aquaman sacrifice his hand to save his son.

Catch Arthur Curry in action when Justice League hits theaters Nov. 17.
