Jurassic Park: Jeff Goldblum Explains How His Infamous Shirtless Scene Came to be

Jeff Goldblum became a pop-culture icon with Jurassic Park, and everyone remembers the sudden moment of fan service when bad boy Chaos theorist Ian Malcolm suddenly took off his shirt. As it turns out, going shirtless was Goldblum's idea, and nobody stopped him when he did it for the scene.

Talking to Yahoo, Goldblum explains:

"It's supposed to be Costa Rica, right? So, things are hot and I'm sure I'm in some sort of fever. So, all the logic is that we gotta get some of these wet clothes off immediately. As I remember, I don't think anybody fought me on that."

For now, Goldblum is set to come back as Malcolm in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Though it seems we won't be seeing him run around being chased by dinosaurs, it looks like Malcolm will be having a part in a nationwide debate on what to do with the dinos of Isla Nublar.

Over the years, I've come to love just how quirky of an actor Goldblum is. Sure Malcolm isn't as half of a kook as the Grandmaster, but he's still fun to watch when he's onscreen.

Here's the synopsis for Fallen Kingdom:

Four years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinos while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.

Ian Malcolm returns in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on June 22.
