Jon Watts Has Not Signed On for Any of Sony's Future Spider-Man Films

And the plot thickens. Jon Watts, who directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and the billion-dollar box office blockbuster Spider-Man: Far From Home, has not signed on for future films with the wallcrawler. While he could still resign, given the success of both movies, it seems like his future with Spider-Man isn't set in stone and other companies *cough*Marvel*cough* could sign him up for other projects.

Deadline reported the news and updated this little factoid, speculating on Watts' future with Sony's Spider-Man franchise. The director has expressed interest in making a Fantastic Four movie before and Marvel could give it to him so that they can spite Sony. Then again, Sony could always give him more money but it's hard to compete with the House of Mouse when it comes to that.

Watts is a solid director and is one of the reasons why Homecoming and Far From Home were bonafide hits. Since Far From Home made so much money, other studios will want to give him more opportunities and there's a very good chance that Disney could offer him something big, like the aforementioned Fantastic Four.

Personally speaking, Watts did good with his Spider-Man movies, though Homecoming lacked some oomph. There were barely any stakes in that story and Peter almost never paid for his actions when skipping on his friends or school. Far From Home was a huge improvement and defied all of our expectations, giving us a perfect Mysterio story.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be re-released in cinemas soon.
