Joker Movie Trailer Inspires Durex India’s Surprising NSFW Ad


Not only has Warner Brothers' final trailer for Todd Phillips' Joker movie received overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans, but it's also received some pretty strange responses from a few other accounts as well.

Taking to social media, Durex India decided to ride on the hype for Joaquin Phoenix's gritty character study of DC's Clown Prince of Crime, sharing a photo of a bed littered with discarded clothing and pillows in the same paint pattern as the Joker. At the side of the picture, followers get to read the company's new tag for the product, writing "Let's Put A Smile On Both of You #Joker."

"'And...here...we...go..' To buy Durex Mutual Climax, click on," Durex India wrote on its Twitter post.

It's pretty strange to see a condom company trying to take advantage of the buzz surrounding the Joker movie knowing that the film probably has less to do with condoms than it does with a disturbed psyche, but then again, Durex India did a similar stunt when Marvel was campaigning for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The condom company may draw a bit of criticism over this advertising decision. It's really hard to place positive images of romance and sex together with a film like Joker which is supposed to study the disturbing origin of Gotham's Clown Prince. It's supposed to be a disturbing film and we don't think it's appropriate for a condom company to use the hype for Joker to advertise its products.

Joker is set for release on October 4, 2019.
