Jeff Goldblum: Jurassic World 2 Will Explore ‘Serious Issues’

Though he was absent for the first movie, Jeff Goldblum will be returning as Chaos Theorist Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World 2. Sure the movie is a big CGI-fest, but Goldblum also says that the movie will be tackling some real-world issues that are present today.

In an interview with EW, Goldblum explains:

"I talked to the director, J.A. Bayona, over the phone… Even though some might say it's popcorn-y entertainment (top-notch, of course), in our conversation he was very focused on the serious issues of greed as it oftentimes comes up in those movies, and the marvels of science and reason and the very fascinating point at which our species finds itself both in real life and in this imaginary world too. I'm very interested in that myself, so I'm looking forward to this. I've got a few things to do. I'm nothing if not conscientious, so I'm enjoying working on it every day."

It's no mystery that the first Jurassic Park was also filled with tough questions that explored the ethics of Science and how far mankind can push it, but I just think that it's amazing that a movie can have such deep messages and yet still be a fun romp for kids.

There isn't any clue on the extent of Goldblum's role in the movie, but as far as we know, Ian Malcolm will probably be questioning why he keeps getting dragged into these Jurassic shenanigans. Maybe he'll start reconsidering Chaos Theory if it's some kind of unfortunate destiny of his.

Jurassic World 2 is set to come out on June 22, 2018.
