Jared Leto's Solo Joker Movie and Harley/Joker Film have been Shelved

Last year it had been announced that DC was also working on a Harley Quinn v Joker movie plus a solo film with Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime. We haven't gotten any significant updates since then, but now news has it that those films have been put on the backburner.

According to Forbes, both movies have "fallen by the wayside" and it's likely that they won't be pursuing those projects moving forward.

With the upcoming Birds of Prey dealing with Harley Quinn's ‘emancipation' from the Joker, I have a feeling that they will be borrowing elements from the Mad Love story, what with Harley and the Joker breaking up. With that in mind, I think a whole movie based on Mad Love would be redundant, so it was right to scrap it.

As for the Joker movie, I think the film was a gut reaction to try and clarify to the audience that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is his own thing. If anything, I think the Joker works best when he's bouncing off another character—specifically Batman. I didn't think that a solo film would be the best idea for Leto's version of the character. Then again, I think he needs a chance to redeem himself after what we got from Suicide Squad.

I am excited for the Joker film coming out this October though.

Will we see more of Leto in the future, or is he going the way of Ben Affleck and quitting the role for good? I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Harley Quinn returns to the big screen with Birds of Prey, in theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
