James Wan Hints At The Tone Aquaman Will Have

Jason Momoa's Aquaman had his cinematic debut during this year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The King of Atlantis will then appear in Justice League: Part One before starring in his own solo film. For months now, we have gotten very few details on what to expect about the upcoming film.

So far, we know that Amber Heard will star as Aquaman's wife, Mera, and that there will be exciting "sea monsters and cool creatures" in the film. Everything else is based on speculations. With the tone of Batman v Superman leaning heavily towards the dark side, it might be safe to assume that the solo Aquaman film will have the same tone.

However, director James Wan is saying that fans should not expect the same tone from his film. In a recent interview with Empire, the Furious 7 director explained:

Look at the sensibility of my movies, from Furious 7 to the horror films. You can extract the kind of movie I might make ofAquaman.

It looks like Wan is verging towards the middle of light and dark with Aquaman. If the forthcoming film's tone will be anything like Furious 7, which has been fun to watch despite its busy plot and sequences, then we can expect Aquaman to be entertaining and kick-ass.

Hopefully though, Wan will be able to separate Aquaman from previous notions of the character being kind of a joke, as referenced by Family Guy and The Big Bang Theory.

Aquaman hits theaters on July 27, 2018.
