James McAvoy Doesn’t Think It’s A Good Idea For The X-Men And The Avengers To Mix

Marvel fans might be eagerly anticipating the arrival of the X-Men, Fantastic Four and 21st Century Fox's other mutant properties into the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Disney's acquisition of the studio's film and television assets, but it seems like X-Men star James McAvoy doesn't think that it's a good idea for the mutants to mix with the Avengers.

Speaking in an interview with Yahoo!, the X-Men actor who plays the powerful Professor X in the franchise was asked whether he could see himself working together with his Glass co-star Samuel L. Jackson in an upcoming Marvel film.

While the proposition might sound exciting to Marvel fans, McAvoy admits that he's a bit wary about the idea of Fox's mutants making their way into the MCU saying that the X-Men probably wouldn't be a good fit in a universe owned by the Avengers.

"I don't know if the X-Men could go into the Marvel universe, I'm not sure," McAvoy told the publication. "Maybe they could? But I think what's different about the Avengers universe anyway is you've only got a couple of superheroes in the world. There's a good amount, but there's like a couple of football teams' worth, you know what I mean?"

According to McAvoy, adding in the X-Men into the MCU would just complicate the franchise because of the social undertones that the heroes would bring.

"Whereas in the X-Men world you're potentially saying there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of [superheroes] and the social implication of that is different," he said.

Of course, McAvoy has every right to be wary of the X-Men heading into the MCU. After all, too many hands spoil the broth, and too many superheroes under one roof could overwhelm the fanbase.

But then again, if Marvel could handle massive team-up movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, who's to say they can't handle a hundred more mutants or so?

McAvoy is set to reprise his role as Professor X in X-Men: Dark Phoenix which premieres on June 7.
