James Gunn Says There’ll Be A New Set Of Guardians After GOTG 3

James Gunn's band of merry space misfits have been enjoying a pretty successful run with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and while the sequel to the first cosmic adventure continues on with its theatrical release, fans are eager to see Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the team return to the big screen.

However, though everyone's eager to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it seems like the third Guardians installment may be the last time fans get to see Star Lord, Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking in a recent Facebook Q&A session, Gunn revealed how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be the final film for the current line-up of Guardians, making way for a new team of cosmic superheroes.

"With this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, there will be three movies. So this next movie is the final film for this iteration of the Guardians."

While a lot of fans have become terribly attached to Peter Quill and his rambunctious group of space thungs-turned-heroes, it does make sense that Marvel would want to explore a team of Guardians. With Gunn introducing a handful of the original comicbook Guardians in Vol. 2, it's rather likely that fans will get to see Sylvester Stallone's Stakar, Michelle Yeoh's Aleta Ogord, Michael Rosebaum's Martinex and Ving Rhame's Charlie-27 in the growing Marvel Cosmic Unvierse.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently screening in cinemas.
