James Franco Confirms X-Men Spinoff, No Mention Of Multiple Man

After rumors regarding a Multiple Man film, James Franco has confirmed that he is working on an X-Men spinoff with Fox. However, he has not confirmed if he would be Multiple Man, playing coy and only saying that they would be working on an X-Men project with Simon Kinberg. Only time will tell if he will be playing Multiple Man aka Jamie Madrox, but his involvement does add more intrigue to Fox's mutant-filled universe.

Franco confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that the film is still in the early stages of development. He couldn't say too much but did confirm that he would be producing and starring in this film, which should be exciting. The actor also expressed a desire to push the superhero genre into new ground, though he didn't say how yet.

"Our bottom line MO is, how can we push this into new ground? A little bit, but still make it entertaining? [But] what I love about what Simon Kinberg and Fox and the X-Men people have done with Deadpool and Logan — it took a while to get there, maybe 10 years — but they are going to go hard R. And we're going to take this superhero thing and really just push it into a new genre. So we're working with Simon Kinberg on an X-Men property."

As to why he's working on this project, Franco credits the success of Deadpool and Logan, two successful R-rated comic book films that pushed the boundaries of comic book adaptations. If mentioning these films is any indication, there's a good chance that the film he'll be working on will also be R-rated. Every other film Franco is in gets a hard R rating, so this should be no surprise.

Since the film is still in its early stages, we shouldn't expect any major news for the time being. There are rumors that Multiple Man, Franco's rumored character, will be debuting in 2019's Gambit.
