Is This Patent More Proof That Nintendo NX Is a Hybrid Handheld Device?

Until now, Nintendo has been very tight-lipped about its upcoming Nintendo NX console. Even though it's slated for reveal sometime this year, the company has not provided any specifics on the hardware.

However, a long-standing rumor has indicated that the Nintendo NX could be a hybrid handheld and console. And that notion may just be real if this new patent from the company actually pushes through.

Spotted by Twitter user ZhugeEX, the patent was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office. As the illustration suggests, it is a handheld information device that has a single screen and touch interface. The device already comes with speakers, though it also has a vibration system to immerse players.

Here are a few of the images from the official page of the United States Patent and Trademark Office:

This isn't the first patent that had Nintendo fans speculating on how the Nintendo NX will look like. Previously, other handheld-looking devices have been patented by the company, including an almost controller-shaped device that has a touchscreen right on top of it.

For now, the only thing that fans can be assured of the device is that it will offer a new way to experience and play games. Does the enhanced sound and vibration system have something to do with it? What do you think?

Of course, as always, patents are never a sure thing. Companies always file for patents that may never be developed into a fully functional hardware. It's also entirely possible that this patent is not even for the Nintendo NX.

Nevertheless, the Nintendo NX is the company's most anticipated hardware to date. It's set for release on March 2017.
