IDW's Sonic Comics Gets Two New Villains

IDW's upcoming comic book reboot of Sonic the Hedgehog has got fans of the Sega mascot buzzing. The character's video game reputation was somewhat redeemed thanks to Sonic Mania and a new set of comic books should do wonders for the video game icon. Believe it or not, Sonic was able to have 300-plus issues when the character was under Archie Comics but now it's time for a new beginning.

What better way to do that than by introducing new foes for Sonic to face?

Kotaku has revealed two new foes that Sonic and Knuckles will be facing; Rough and Tumble. The two skunk brothers were conceptualized by writer Ian Flynn, with Sega giving their approval to make these characters. It turns out that Flynn can pitch a number of original characters, as long as Sega gives him their blessing.

Rough is the smaller, darker skunk, while Tumble is the taller and lighter one. Editor David Mariotte said that the two were more bullies than evil masterminds and could be the henchmen for someone in the near future. Perhaps a doctor who likes eggs? Only time will tell.

Knuckles isn't the only returning character with Sonic. Solicitations for the series also revealed that Amy and Blaze the Cat would come back as well. The latter in particular is pretty surprising since Blaze hasn't appeared in a Sonic game since the awful Sonic 06.

IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog launches on April 4.
