HBO's Watchmen Officially Comes Out Next Month

Everyone has been curious on when HBO was going to release their Watchmen series, and rumors were going around that it could be released sometime in November. The good news is, it looks like the end of the world is going to come earlier.

As per the official announcement, Watchmen will premiere on HBO on October 20:

Unlike Zack Snyder's adaptation of the comic for film, Damon Lindelof's Watchmen looks to continue the original story by Alan Moore from the comics. That means that we're looking at a world where Dr. Manhattan definitely existed, and Ozymandias killed millions of people with a giant squid "alien."

Besides Jeremy Irons playing an older Ozymandias and the teaser of Dr. Manhattan in the end of the latest trailer, we also have another original Watchmen member in the form of Agent Laurie Blake a.k.a. the second Silk Spectre; though she was Laurie Jupiter in the comics, it looks like she's adapted the name of her biological father Eddie Blake (The Comedian) in order to hide her identity.

So far, the only original member of the series we haven't met is Dan Dreiberg, but we do get to see his Owlship (or Archie) in the previews. Hopefully we get an update on old Dan in the first season.

Set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name, while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Watchmen hits HBO this coming Oct. 20.
