HBO CEO Excited For Game Of Thrones Spinoffs

Though Game of Thrones is expected to air its final season in 2019, HBO is already hard at work trying to spinoff another series that would take place in the Westeros canon. A bunch of writers had already been hired to come up with their GoT spinoffs, and HBO CEP Richard Plepler praises their work.

Talking to Variety, Plepler explains:

"I think we will find with this embarrassment of [writing] riches an exciting property for us to [move] forward with. We are looking some things, I have read a couple of early bibles and I'm excited about what I've seen."

He also talks about how the writers have already been working on Thrones before and how that would help them in developing their own spinoffs:

"…It's a fantastic group of writers and talent, most of whom have lived inside the Thrones eco-system so are very, very familiar with its intricacies."

Personally, I think HBO may be trying too hard when it comes to spinning off something like Game of Thrones, but I'm open to whatever show they have in mind. George R.R. Martin's world of Westeros is just a great piece of world-building that it's understandable that some people may want to keep watching stories in it for several more years. I just don't know if the writers can top the original story with these spinoffs.

As of now, production for Game of Thrones 8 is expected to take place next year, and the last season is most likely to premiere in 2019.
