Han Solo Actor Donald Glover Talks About Nabbing the Part of Lando Calrissian

Last year, the Star Wars community was pleasantly surprised when Lucasfilm officially announced the cast for the lead roles of the Han Solo standalone. Alden Ehrenriech nabbed the iconic role of everyone's favorite Star Wars smuggler, Han Solo while Game of Thrones's Emilia Clarke was cast as the unnamed female lead to play opposite the young Hail Caesar! star. Television favorite Donald Glover was also announced as part of the cast, set to play the part of a young version of the suave Lando Calrissian.

Knowing how much of a geek Glover really is, many fans were glad that the Community actor was cast as a younger version of Billy Dee Williams character. Speaking in an interview with Variety during last weekend's Golden Globe Awards, Glover revealed what he had felt when he heard that he'd be playing Lando in the Han Solo spinoff.

Glover was always a big fan of the Star Wars franchise, growing up with the movies and taking year book photos with Star Wars shirts. When he learned he nabbed the part, he was shocked and at the same time really glad he won the part. Check out Glover's reaction down in Variety's interview down below:

Given Glover's wit and his appreciation for Star Wars, many might find the Golden Globe winner a good cut for Lando in the upcoming Han Solo spinoff. Afterall, it's really great to hear when actors have respect and appreciation for the parts they're playing.

The Han Solo standalone is set to premiere on May 25, 2018.
