The entire Marvel fandom can't stop buzzing about the possibility of Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film being the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Spider-Verse and although Sony has previously debunked rumors linking both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's names to the said project, that didn't stop diehard webheads from speculating as production for the film is underway.

A new report suggests that Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy in Sony's TheAmazing Spider-Man franchise could be well on her way to the MCU. Apparently, Stone has chosen to drop out from her current project, a period film titled Babylon helmed by her La La Land director Damien Chazelle. The 32-year-old actress is citing "scheduling conflict" as the reason for her withdrawal. Interestingly, Stone is only attached to the live-action Cruella film which has already wrapped up filming over a year ago.

I'm sure most of you already know where I'm going with this. Did Emma withdraw from her current project because she's set to film Spider-Man 3? Of course, I wouldn't want to give anyone false hopes but could you imagine how huge it will be if Emma's Gwen Stacy somehow makes her way to the current MCU timeline? It's worth noting as well that Gwen died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 so if she does end up turning up in Earth-616, expect her to be a different iteration of the character, possibly Spider-Gwen even.

That said, the MCU's Spider-Man 3 hits cinemas in December 2021.
