Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Begin Production Next Year

With James Gunn currently working on The Suicide Squad which is set to come out in 2021, a lot of people thought he would resume work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the year after, with the movie likely to come out in 2023. The good news is Gunn is set to work on Guardians 3 immediately after Suicide Squad 2 wraps.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to start production next year 2020. We don't really have any more details that, but the timeline does seem to work. SS2 is set to begin production later this year, give that a few months and some time for post-production, and Gunn could be free to start work on Guardians.

One thing that is concerning is that there looks to be no time for Gunn to breathe between two movies, and that could affect Guardians 3 in a negative way. If it's any consolation, he was deep into pre-production for the film before he was fired, so it's likely he doesn't have to work that hard before getting back on GOTG again.

The site does say that the "current five stars" are set to reunite for Guardians 3, and I'm guessing that means Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Of course, we're also expecting the return of Mantis and Nebula, and after Endgame, probably the inclusion of Thor. We don't really see Gamora make her return by the end of the movie, but the team finding her again could be part of the plot.

No release date has been set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but you can catch them all in Avengers: Endgame which is out in theaters now.
