Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Used to Have Several Character Arcs

Ensemble casts are always an intense feature to work with. For the Russo brothers, Captain America: Civil War is pretty much the kind of success that fans will always want to gun for.

In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the cast has expanded with a few more colorful characters. But it appears that the original storyline was far from crowded than what James Gunn had wanted.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, the director revealed that there used to be one major character included in the movie. Sadly, they had to cut him out because it felt like a one-too-many-characters instance flooding the sequel.

"I think Civil War handles a lot of characters really well, but they're minor characters, and in this movie, every character had their own arc. Their own thing. And I thought it was one character too many, so I took one of the characters out of the story about halfway through the treatment phase."

Since that change, however, Gunn seemed to have stuck with the 70-page treatment since then with very little to no changes. We're not given any clues as to who this character could possibly be.

What we can be assured of is that the script seems really tight and nice, something that Marvel seems to have had a good handle on in recent movies.

"I knew this time I was really fortunate to have such a headstart on the script. And to make that story really strong so we could have that from the beginning."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be out on May 5.
