Gotham Will See More Villains with a Solid Riddler and Mad Hatter

Gotham may open its third season with a boatload of villains in tow. And as early as now, we can finally get a glimpse and some clues to two of the bad guys.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Cory Michael Smith, who plays Edward Nigma spoke about his role's breakout into a full-on Riddler. Many fans already have a clue as to where Nigma's madness and voices-in-his-head will take him.

Following the events in the second season, where he finally descends into the darkness after he killed his lady love Kristen Kringle.

"As we move [forward], and he gets out of Arkham, and has this clean slate and decides what to do, he's embraced the darker side of himself and realized, in Arkham, he can make friends. He actually has the ability to make friends and kind of run the show a little bit."

But that's not enough for Nigma, apparently, because thanks to his brilliance, he will come to realize his true identity of the Ridder. Nigma had been one of the interesting characters in Gotham. I've been looking forward to him finally emerging as The Riddler, but also a little curious as to how it will happen considering that Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) had been one of the friendlier faces towards Nigma in the GCPD.

The Riddler is not the only villain that Gotham will see in its third season. Entertainment Weekly gave fans the first glimpse of the Mad Hatter in the form of Benedict Samuel.

Fans may know Samuel from his stint in The Walking Dead as The Wolves' Owen who brought a lot of conflict between the show's mainstays. But now he will don the proverbial top hat and take on the role of a hypnotist who is looking for his sister in Gotham City.

It's also confirmed that Samuel will be a regular face for the season once he appears in the third episode.

Gotham will be back for its third season on Sept. 19 on Fox.
