Game of Thrones: What (Spoiler) Final Word Meant

Warning: This article contains spoilers from last Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones.

The Battle of Winterfell in Game of Thrones may be over but the latest episode showed that the death count hasn't stopped growing. The new episode shocked fans with the death of the dragon Rhaegal and the brutal murder of Missendei of Naath. Before Cersei ordered to kill her, Missandei had a parting word for Daenerys: "Dracarys".

Missandei's final word is High Valyrian that literally means "dragonfire" and it holds great significance to the Mother of Dragons as she uses it to command her dragons to breathe fire but in the latest episode, it actually means more.

In the latest Inside the Episode segment of Game of Thrones, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss talked about Missandei's last word. Weiss explained Dany's emotional state: "In some ways, the most important thing that happens to Daenerys in [Episode 4] is the death of her second dragon. Now she's got one dragon, and that dragon presumably is just as vulnerable as Rhaegal was. So there's this - the mourning of a child, which is very real to her, and then her best friend is taken. Dany knows that once Cersei has Missandei that she's not going to see Missandei alive again."

Weiss went on to say that Dany's current situation mirrors where she was earlier in the series. "She's really back where she was at the very beginning. Emotionally, she's alone in the world, and she can't really trust anybody."

However, Weiss pointed out that Dany has key advantages now that she didn't have before. "Unlike then, she's extremely powerful, and unlike then, she's filled with a rage that's aimed at one person specifically."

Missandei's final message clearly means that she wants Daenerys to burn her enemies. "I think what's probably echoing in Dany's head in those final moments would be Missandei's final words," Benioff explained. "'Dracarys' is clearly meant for Dany. Missandei knows that her life is over, and she is saying, you know, 'Light them up.'"

The latest episode drew parallels between Dany and her father, the Mad King Aerys II, and the next episode will probably see her unleash her rage against Cersei Lannister.

The next Game of Thrones episode will air this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
