Game Of Thrones Season 8 Theory Says Premiere Episode Teased The Return Of House Baratheon

The game continues to evolve in Game of Thrones Season 8 but it looks like a forgotten contender is still playing after all these years. Although the House Baratheon no longer exists in the final season, some new hints in the premiere episode may have confirmed that there's a good reason why Gendry is still very much alive.

In the first season of Game of Thrones, the whole conflict started when Ned Stark discovered that Robert Baratheon's children with Cersei Lannister are not exactly his own. Unfortunately, this led to Ned's death and the massacre of Robert's bastard children. All except for one, and one who continues to play a role in the series.

Interestingly, the show continues to tease at House Baratheon being a part of the game. Cinemablend has pointed out that the stag is still featured in the opening credits, most notably beside Gendry actor Joe Dempsie's name. In addition to that, the final shot of the gyroscope still features the four great houses: Targaryen, Lannister, Stark, and yes, Baratheon. Surely, if Gendry has no claim to the Iron Throne, the stag should have been removed a long time ago, right?

There are several ways that Gendry could finally represent the House Baratheon despite being a bastard. Perhaps Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen will legitimize him so they can rally the Baratheon forces once again. Gendry might even find a suitable partner for himself as the head of House Baratheon (yes, we're referring to those fan theories about him marrying Arya Stark). Either way, fans might want to keep an eye out for Gendry coming into power in the final season.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 will air on HBO on April 21.
