Game of Thrones Fans Figure Out Why Season 8 Is So Bad

A lot of fans would agree that Game of Thrones Season 8 may just be the worse season of the show. The glaring quality drop has a lot of once devoted fans checked out from the series. While a lot of fans are upset and disappointed, a Reddit user tries to make sense as to why one of the biggest shows in the world has fallen face flat in its final run.

For Reddit user Chieftah, there are numerous reasons that the quality of Game of Thrones has drastically gone down this season. A big thing is the fact that there is no source material to pull from with George R.R. Martin still stuck with "Winds of Winter."

The plan was to adapt the A Song of Ice and Fire books after all, and no one thought the show will outpace the books like it did. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were left to come up with the conclusion themselves, and it is not easy to do that especially with such beloved characters. While Martin provides notes to the duo as guide, it is totally different from a well fleshed out plot that just has to be translated into the big screen.

Game of Thrones' own success may have contributed to the downgrade too. For one. As the show got big, marketing may have been prioritized over storytelling. Characters got more screen time than they should have because the audience liked them.

Another is that Game of Thrones Season 8 had to cater to an audience with a stark difference in interest. In its early days, majority of the viewers would've been those who knew about the books or are fantasy fans--those who cared about the lore. The explosive battle scenes, twists and turns, dragons, and nudity ultimately attracted a larger audience that was more inclined to watch the show for these things. As such, these scenes soon started taking precedence over actual worldbuilding and development. Episodes with no shocking scenes didn't satisfy this fan base, which resulted in poor reviews.

A lot of fans seem to agree about Chieftah's assessment. Read the whole post here:
