Fans Love Kathleen Kennedy's Statement Regarding Weiss and Benioff's Star Wars Departure

As the world knows, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have officially departed from their planned Star Wars trilogy, the first of which was supposed to come out in 2022. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, left the door open for their return, saying that she hopes they return one day when their schedules aren't too busy. While most of us assumed that this was a friendly enough statement, others are seeing the somewhat obvious bitterness she has towards the two.

The fact that she mentions them being "too busy" with their current projects to work on Star Wars is what caused a certain portion of the internet to laugh since they got the Star Wars gig before the Netflix deal. One fan even posted below about how the two were busy counting their Netflix money instead of working on the planned trilogy, officially making their time with Lucasfilm a big old waste.

Don't get us wrong, people should be able to pursue what they want creatively, especially if they find it more fulfilling. That being said, if you signed a contract and promised to work on something and decide to work for someone else instead of doing what was asked, well, it's not a good look.

Hopefully, the duo of Benioff and Weiss get a bigger handle on how show business works since their final season for Game of Thrones was trash. It's clear that the two have some talent but it seems like they're better at adapting instead of creating. Maybe they'll prove us wrong.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out on December 20.
