Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum has set the record straight on the MCU canon status of the upcoming animated series Eyes of Wakanda.

Late last year, it was announced that the Black Panther animated series is in the works and the story will focus on the Wakandan warriors who traveled the world to retrieve dangerous vibranium artifacts.

Considering that the series is seemingly heavily tied into the Wakanda mythology that we've seen in the Black Panther films, some fans are wondering whether it is canon to the MCU Sacred Timeline.

In an interview with Men's Health, Winderbaum, who serves as the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed that Eyes of Wakanda is canon in the MCU Sacred Timeline.

"We're exploring so many amazing avenues on the animated side. Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other show, fits right into our sacred MCU timeline continuity," he said.

"[Black Panther director Ryan Coogler] is a producer on it, Todd Harris is one of our long-time storyboard artists who directs it. It's about Wakandan history and mythology, and it's really cool. It looks amazing. And it feels like, 'Okay I'm getting an animated look into the MCU.'"

While Eyes of Wakanda won't be the first animated series from Marvel Studios, it is the first animated project that is definitively set in the MCU since What If...? and X-Men '97 take place in other timelines within the multiverse.

So far, the details of the series remain under wraps except for the premise that they already teased. It is also unknown whether familiar MCU characters will also show up.

It is interesting to see how they are handling the animated look of the MCU Sacred Timeline and whether it will have some impact or ramifications on the Black Panther films.
