Every Easter Egg And Reference In Alien: Covenant

Alien: Covenant has finally come out, and the movie managed to topple Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 from the top spot of the box office. Just like every great movie, Covenant is a host to several dozen easter eggs and references to previous movies in the Alien franchise, and Mr. Sunday Movies on Youtube has tried to see if he could find all of them.

Unlike Prometheus, which loosely tried to reference Alien, Covenant fully embraces its place in the franchise, and has several callbacks to behind-the-scenes elements. For one, the drawings that David has of the many versions of the xenomorphs are based on H.R. Giger's early concept sketches. Also, the xenomorph is blasted out of an airlock — pretty much like the alien queen from Aliens.

The video is very thorough, but some references have been missed. Some fans in the comment section have also pointed out that the Engineers' obsession with DNA is apparent because their bio-weapon takes the shape of a DNA strand when it's released.

I personally noticed that one of the aliens on David's desk looked a lot like the human/alien from Alien: Resurrection and the tune that David plays on the flute is the theme from Prometheus.

I thought the movie was okay, really; I just felt that Prometheus was asking a lot of bigger and more compelling questions — it just failed when it came to execution. The ending for Covenant builds up to future movies in the franchise, but we still have no idea when those will come out.

Alien: Covenant is now showing in theaters.
