Emilia Clarke Says Male Stars in Game of Thrones Got Special Treatment Over Female Stars

Game of Thrones seems to have fewer defenders every day as the series went from beloved and well-written to being hated instantly once the final season ended. Years of great characterization and intricate writing were ruined when it was decided to end Game of Thrones with Season 8. Since then, the actors have been much more outspoken about their experiences working on the show, including Daenerys Targaryen herself Emilia Clarke.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival (via Daily Mail), Clarke revealed that her male co-stars would often get privileges that she and the female co-stars would not. One experience she brings up is how the men would get little generators in their costumes to cool them off when shooting in hot countries. All the women could do was lift their wigs or ice their backs, which isn't great to hear.

"When we were shooting things in a hot country when they had all of those things on, they had this pump that had its own little generator attached into the costumes. They used it to pump cold water into these pipes and cool them all down so underneath they had this weird kind of cooling system."

It's a bit upsetting to hear about news like this since many female viewers considered Game of Thrones to be a fairly empowering show, bare boobs, rape, and other flaws aside. We don't blame Clarke for complaining about this since they easily could have done this for all the major stars or not do it at all.

Game of Thrones can be viewed on all of the HBO streaming apps though we're not sure it can be recommended, given the ending.
