EA And Lucasfilm Announce New Star Wars Strategy Game

It looks like Star Wars: Battlefront II isn't the only Star Wars game coming from Electronic Arts.

Posting on the official Star Wars website, Lucasfilm has announced a brand new Star Wars strategy game for fans to play on their cell phones. Titled Star Wars: Rise to Power, gamers get to take part in the war between the New Republic and the Empire through strategic decision-making.

Though the specifics of the game haven't been released, Lucasfilm says that Android users on Google Play can start signing up so they get to try out the game in its Closed Pre-Alpha Test. Fans who qualify get to play Rise to Power and provide feedback to its developers.

The description of Rise to Power on EA's registration page reads:

"In Star Wars: Rise to Power, the war between the Empire and the dawning New Republic continues to rage on – and players influence who will ultimately reign supreme. Every move helps to shape the fate of the galaxy in-game as players choose a faction, establish their base, and begin building a fleet of starships.

Players will form or join an alliance and engage in epic galactic warfare with other players from around the world in the hopes of emerging victorious. Power is earned by outwitting adversaries in carefully orchestrated attacks and by building a mighty coalition through the loyalty of other players. In Star Wars: Rise to Power, players embrace destiny by engaging in diplomacy or deception to ultimately become a leader of the Empire or New Republic."

Lucasfilm previously released Star Wars: Puzzle Droids for fans, but it seems like the studio's decided to create a more complicated application to play with. We wonder how sophisticated this strategy game could be.

Star Wars: Rise to Power doesn't have a release date just yet, but we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we get word.
