Dragon Ball’s Yamcha Story Continues With New Chapter

Fans who have been waiting for the second part of the three-part manga featuring Yamcha can now rejoice—it's coming very soon.

Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump (via Anime News Network) confirmed that Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha (Gaiden: Tensei Shitara Yamcha Datta Ken) will have its second chapter on the Shonen Jump+ web manga site.

According to the report, this is the continuation of the spinoff manga from the original Dragon Ball run. This work is credited to Dragon Garow Lee, with Toriyama-sensei being the original creator of the franchise.

As the title implies, Yamcha will be the hero of the story. But since it is a spinoff, the story goes way out by introducing a high school boy who becomes Yamcha in the world of Dragon Ball following an accident. What makes it interesting is that Dragon Ball seems to be acknowledged as a comic in the spinoff—how many fourth wall breaks does that make?—and it's his conscious decision to put Yamcha in the spotlight.

It's certainly a different take to the boy becomes his own hero trope. Since the first chapter was already a hit with fans, I'm sure the second part will continue the adventure in the same manner.

For those who are looking for more Dragon Ball, there's Dragon Ball Super, which has just entered the Universal Survival saga.
