It has taken some time, but finally, Bandai Namco unveiled Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, the long-awaited next installment in the Budokai Tenkaichi series.
This new series entry was unveiled with a trailer that was shared during The Game Awards 2023 – one of gaming’s most prestigious annual events.
Sparking! Zero’s trailer didn’t reveal much when it comes to the game’s features and combat, but it does give players a taste of what to expect as it features huge fights featuring popular franchise characters.
New Budokai Tenkaichi Game Revealed Following Initial Teaser Earlier This Year
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is easily one of the biggest Shonen Jump franchises. Aside from the iconic manga and anime, the franchise has gotten tons of video game releases over the past decades.
Of the Dragon Ball titles, Budokai Tenkaichi is perhaps the most beloved among long-time fans. That’s because many consider the series among the best when it comes to anime fighting games.
Thus, it wasn’t a surprise that fans became incredibly excited back in March when the new Budokai Tenkaichi game was revealed at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 event.
The game’s initial teaser did not reveal much about the game. Instead, it only featured clips of the old games on a CRT TV which then transitions into Goku powering up to Super Saiyan Blue.
Finally, the game was revealed at The Game Awards. Instead of being called Budokai Tenkaichi 4 as many predicted, its official title is Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

The game’s announcement trailer started with Goku and Vegeta facing off. In the process of their fight, both Saiyans powered up to Super Saiyan Blue. Soon, more characters are shown, including Frieza, Broly, and more.
This trailer may only offer a small taste of what to expect, but it is quite exciting. After all, the appearance of Broly along with Goku and Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue forms means we might get more Super characters.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is confirmed to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The trailer did not reveal the game’s release date or window.
Given that there’s no launch window yet, chances are that we’ll see this game be released in mid to late 2024 at the earliest.
