Disney Reportedly has No Intention of Purchasing Spider-Man Anytime Soon

Marvel's Spider-Man movies might have been proven to be a success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, it doesn't seem like Disney has any intention of buying the wall-crawler's film rights from Sony anytime soon.

Earlier this year, after word came out that the Spider-man negotiations between Sony and Disney had fallen through, rumors started spreading that Disney was considering the idea of purchasing the Spider-Man film rights from Sony. However, a new report by Cosmic Book News says that this rumor seems very unlikely at this point in time. Now that Sony and Disney have agreed to extend Tom Holland/ Spider-Man's stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the likelihood of seeing Disney acquire Peter Parker seems to be getting smaller.

This report comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger was asked about whether or not the Mickey Mouse House was thinking of acquiring even more properties after the studio purchased 21st Century Fox's film and television assets. Speaking in an interview with Deadline, Iger revealed that it was rather "unlikely" for the company to make any major acquisition anytime soon after the Fox merger.

Right now, the new Spider-Man deal is a win-win for both Disney and Sony. Marvel is co-financing 25% of the third Spider-Man movie for a 25% stake at the film's equity, and it seems like Disney's more than happy with those terms. The wall-crawler makes a whole lot of money in the MCU, and it seems like Disney and Sony have finally agreed on how to share that kind of success.

Spider-Man 3 is set to release on July 16, 2021.
