Disney CEO Says Deadpool And Other R-Rated Mutant Movies Can Continue After Merger

Marvel fans might be eagerly anticipating the integration of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of Fox's other mutants into to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the completion of the Disney-Fox merger, but some can't help but feel concerned over the R-rated Deadpool franchise. Will Disney try to change the tone of upcoming Deadpool and X-Force movies to fit in with its family-friendly roster?

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, that might not actually be the case. Early this morning Disney held its quarterly earnings call with all its investors (via ComicBook.com). During the gathering Iger took questions about the Mickey Mouse House's business plans moving forward and Iger was asked how the company would handle Fox's existing properties, including the R-rated Deadpool film franchise.

While Iger says that Disney isn't afraid of working on the R-rated franchise, the CEO also notes that Deadpool would continue development under a Fox umbrella, the studio making sure to brand the property differently so consumers and fans wouldn't get confused.

It's very clear from these comments that Marvel followers have very little to worry about when it comes to upcoming Deadpool and X-Force instalments. Sure, Disney might not be in the business of making their own gritty R-rated movies, but the company would be a fool to scrap out Deadpool after the success that it's earned for 21st Century Fox. In fact, Deadpool 2 just managed to make its way to the top as the highest grossing film in the X-Men franchise. If that isn't a major win, we don't know what is.

Fox's next X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, is set for release on June 7, 2019.
