Detective Pikachu Catches Two More Stars

Two more stars have been added to Ryan Reynolds' Detective Pikachu movie, which is a thing that actually exists. Despite the silly premise, the film was able to get the aforementioned Ryan Reynolds, as well as acclaimed Asian star Ken Watanabe. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Bill Nighy and Chris Geere of You're the Worst fame have now been added to the family picture.

It's not yet clear what their roles are, though fans can assume that they will be live-action stars and not voice Pokemon, though that would be neat. Reynolds is voicing the title character, so more voice actors for other Pokemon will probably follow, though they might be unannounced.

With stars like Nighy and Geere, in addition to Reynolds and Watanabe, it does seem like Legendary wants Detective Pikachu to make some sort of impact. The film might be based on a silly 3DS game but it will be written by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman, so if anyone can make this concept work it's those two.

Detective Pikachu is slated for a May 10, 2019, release.
