Deadpool will return to the big screen sooner than we expected, and his comeback is a surrpise that 20th Century Fox and Logan director James Mangold probably didn't want us to know. The Wrap claims that Ryan Reynolds has shot footage for the film which will probably be used as an after-credits scene, and while the site didn't share any specific details, it was Deadpool 2 director David Leitch who decided on that. It's most likely something that was added in the later period of the film's development.
Don't expect a Deadpool/Wolverine team-up anytime soon. Deadpool's appearance is most likely unrelated to the events in Logan. We might see the Merc with the Mouth help Wolverine and X-23 battle the reavers or it might just be a tongue-in-cheek moment between the mutants. We'll have to wait and see.
Logan is set to release in theaters on March 3, 2017.
